TERRITORI EDUCADOR. ENS MENGEM LES VALLS (EDUCATIVE TERRITORY. WE EAT THE VALLEYS)

Schools of the Ripollès, Vall del Ges and Bisaura participate during the school years 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 in the project Territorio Educador. Ens Mengem Les Valls which aims to promote a culture of healthy food, quality and proximity to the local population through the school.

The aim of this project is to put in value the agroalimentary product of the territory in the school, and to contribute to foster the consumption of proximity through the generation of a sense of belonging and identity around the local product and the traditional activity of the territory.

In the territory is known the experience of implementation of the Ens Mengem Les Valls project promoted by the cultural and gastronomic Association of cuisine of the Camprodon Valley that began in 2011. This project has as main axes the promotion of the agricultural products of the Valley of Camprodon at the local level, education for a healthy and quality food and the linking of the social fabric that forms the productive sector of the territory, families, school and catering sector.

With the Territori educador project. Ens Mengem Les Valls, we want to extend the experience of “we eat the valley” to the whole territory of Ripollès and in the Valley of the Ges, Orís and Bisaura, and to extend the pedagogical materials with other local quality products, as well as other actions of Promotion of the local product linked to the agricultural and food fairs of the territory, and the “Aula d’Hosteleria del Ripollès”.

The project’s activities consist of the promotion of local products such as beef, dairy products and cheeses, lamb and goatling meat, the Camprodon Valley potato and Oris potato, pony meat, sausages, others. This promotion is done through work in the classroom through pedagogical materials specially designed for the project, visits to agrifood producers with students, and informative and formative sessions and workshops for families, teachers and school cafeteria teams centered on the product of proximity, its gastronomic expression and its nutritional importance.
